technical characteristics of this wide Open Water Jump
An Open Water is an obstacle with its own distinct technical and regulatory identity.
- It is a wide Open Water Jump, defined mainly by a sheet of water — or material simulating it
- It is the only obstacle that primarily tests the horse’s ability to extend in jumping
- Modern regulations — FEI and national — impose very high construction standards to minimise the risks to the horse in the event of an error
- It always provides for a ground element on the side of the fence — small hedge, low wall, barrier — that helps the horse to assess the point of strike and encourages it to jump
- It must be built with sturdy, safe, non-slippery materials and with ergonomic edges to prevent trauma
Our Open Waters: innovative materials and Made in Italy production
To guarantee superior performance and safety, we have chosen to manufacture our Open Waters jumps with innovative materials and techniques.
We use high-quality vulcanised rubber, a material that is significantly more stable, resistant and durable than common PVC. It is reinforced internally with two layers of high-tenacity cloth — total thickness 0.80 – 1.2 cm — for exceptional strength. We make the “pool” — the tub containing the water or the cloth — in-house, guaranteeing quality control and flexibility.
The edge of the pool on the breakaway side is inclined at 45° to facilitate a safer approach of the horse and reduce the risk of stumbling. The bottom is typically light blue/blue to realistically simulate water. By manufacturing directly, we offer the excellence of Made in Italy at advantageous prices.
